Tim Schnabel Joins the Lab

The Cochran Lab is delighted to welcome Dr. Tim Schnabel to the lab. Tim will be an Entrepreneur in Residence and Postdoctoral Research Fellow with us. During his PhD work in the Sattely Lab he developed microbes that turn the air into sustainable nitrogen fertilizer (ammonia), addressing one of the engineering grand challenges of the century. He also took a dive into evolutionary stability of engineered systems.

Tim is now exploring the translational potential of ammonia producing strains by adapting their circuitry for switchable ammonia production in the field and scaling their techno-economics to revolutionize agriculture.

On the side, Tim is a hobby beekeeper, winemaker, gardener, budget traveler, social dancer, and author.
